Maxine Peake trained at the Royal Acadamy of Dramatic Art In London. Her first role out of drama school was in Victoria Woods’ sitcom, “Dinner Ladies” (1998) which ran for two series.
Perhaps best known for her portrayal of Martha Costello in “Silk”, Maxine’s career has included roles in “Room at the Top”, “The Theory of Everything”, “The Hollow Crown”, “Little Dorritt” and the Moors Murderer, Myra Hindley in “See No Evil”.
When approached by NOT IN OUR NAME to read Heathcote Williams’ powerful poem “Who Did This To Me?” she accepted straightaway. She wrote afterwards, “It was an absolute pleasure.”
