The Calais Sessions give musical opportunities to those currently in the Calais 'jungle' refugee and migrant camp. Facilitation is the key. A drum (darbuka preferably), instruments, sometimes fellow musicians to collaborate with together with a makeshift recording studio powered by a generator has enabled talented musicians there to record an album.
Enthusiastic amateurs also benefit - beginner guitar groups, drumming circles and vocal groups allow all to take part.
Playing, singing and drumming might not seem like the most pressing need for refugees and migrants but the release of energy, the giving of a voice and the chance for some normality, albeit briefly are priceless.
All proceeds go to Citizens UK and donations to the refugee musicians on the album
